A post that I found very interesting from my RSS feed in Ning was taken from the blog Mathematics Learning. The post that I enjoyed reading was Different Methods of Starting a Math Lesson. On this post, the writer discusses six points that will benefit both the students and the teacher when beginning a mathematics lesson. Through these six points, the author shows how students can benefit from being engaged in the lesson by the teacher's efforts for example, by showing a picture, story telling, involving students, etc. It is very important to begin the lesson on a positive and productive note, because this will ensure that the students stay engaged throughout the entire lesson. When students are off task and bored at the beginning of the lesson, it is very unlikely that anything will be productively accomplished throughout the class period. Overall, this post is a good resource for teachers to read in order to benefit their students as much as possible throughout the school year.
